HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR FAINTER

Here at CA Acres, we feed our Fainters Alfalfa and Nutrena Country Feeds 17% Textured Goat Feed.

We recommend feeding one to two flakes per goat depending on the size of the goat and  a cup (scoop) of grain twice a day. You should multiply this by how many goats you are keeping in a pen together.

Pregnant does should be getting one more flake and cup (scoop) than the other does to provide for the babies they are carrying and help maximize milk production. The grain helps with their milk production since they are in fact a meat breed.

For grooming, you can give your goats baths routinely if you wish. We only bathe ours for goat shows or before they go to a new home. We do trim our goats hooves as if you were clipping a dog's nails. We use hoof sheers and a rasp to flatten the hoof, evening it out. These can both be found on Amazon or even Walmart

For shelters, it can range from built barns to tarpsplastic/wood barrels to dog crates! Dog igloos are amazing! They love them! We use tarps as awnings off our built shelters, some of the smaller pens have a tarp over a part of the pen. Some have dog igloos, some have crates. You can even have 3 sided shelters! Any thing that can keep the goats covered from the weather will make a great shelter. Feel free to get creative with it! Some people built fancy barns for them, some cut into an old water tank!
